2024 Topps Star Wars Masterwork marks the ninth set in ten years for the high-end line. Like past releases, autographs are a major focus with two in every four-pack hobby box. Of those two signatures, only one is guaranteed to be on-card. Although not confirmed in the set’s initial details, this could signal a shift for the line as standard single Masterwork autographs have typically been hard signed.
As has always been the case, packs in the product are done as mini boxes with each delivering some sort of premium card. Those without autographs may have memorabilia cards, sketch cards or printing plates.
2024 Topps Star Wars Masterwork Checklist Details
The base set is all about characters from across the franchise’s ever-growing list of movies and television shows. Keeping with the premium nature, these cards are all done on 72 pt. stock. Basically, they’re Jabba thick.
Parallels land one per pack and include:
- Blue
- Green – #’ed/99
- Purple – #’ed/50
- Red – #’ed/25
- Orange – #’ed/10
- Black – #’ed/5
- Gold – 1/1
- Printing Plates – 1/1
Autographs follow in the footsteps of the main set, both in design and by going with actors from both TV and the big screen. Parallels take a different approach, though, with:
- Blue Foil – #’ed/99
- Rainbow Foil – #’ed/50
- Canvas – #’ed/25
- Wood – #’ed/10
- Silver Frame – #’ed/5
- Gold Frame – 1/1
- Printing Plates – 1/1
The checklist has multi-signed cards as well. Dual and Triple Autographs have Wood (#’ed/10), Black (#’ed/5) and Gold (1/1) versions. Quad Autographs are done as book cards and have Gold (1/1) parallels.
One-of-one Pen Autograph Relics return. These include a piece of pen the actor used during one of the Topps signings.
On the memorabilia side of the 2024 Topps Star Wars Masterwork checklist are two themes. The first are Stormtrooper Armor Relics. These have pieces of a Stormtrooper costume used in 2015’s The Force Awakens. Series 1 for the film’s main set released back in 2015 use armor pieces as well.
Rise of the Resistance Control Panel cards don’t use pieces from a movie. That said, they are the first memorabilia cards to come from a theme park. The control panel used to create these comes from the attraction that’s still drawing big lines at Disneyland and Disney World.
Both sets have Purple (#’ed/50), Red (#’ed/25), Orange (#’ed/10), Black (#’ed/5) and Gold (1/1) parallels. Rise of the Resistance also has Green (#’ed/99) versions. Rare autograph versions are also available.
More Masterworks Chases
Seven additional insert sets explore other elements of the broader Star Wars franchise.
Journey of Ahsoka Tano charts the character’s evolution. 2018 Topps Star Wars Galaxy has something similar, although it’s more art-driven and focused on the animated version.
The Grand Admiral is another character-centric set, this time delving into the rise of Thrawn.
Behind the Scenes looks at the sets from the Sequel Trilogy while Marvel Comic Covers looks back on vintage issues.
All four of these sets have a similar mix of parallels with Rainbow Foil (#’ed/299), Canvas (#’ed/25), Wood (#’ed/10), and Printing Plates (1/1). All but The Grand Admiral also have Metal (#’ed/5) and Gold Metal (1/1) versions.
The 2024 Topps Star Wars Masterwork checklist has three short print insert sets. Both R2-D2 and C-3PO are all-metal and include memorable moments from both characters. Don’t expect a metal version of the infamous 1977 Goldenrod card in the C-3PO set, though.
Finally, there’s Force Spirits, which spotlight deceased characters with a die-cut design done on acetate.
