The second batch of Topps Lord of the Rings trading cards features another strong lot of autographs. While they may be quite as good as the Fellowship of the Rings autographs, it still covers a lot of ground. Topps Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Autographs include some returning signers as well as some new ones that reflect the trilogy’s expanding cast.
Both 2002 Topps Lords of the Rings: The Two Towers and follow-up 2003 Topps: LotR: TTT Update have autographs. Most of them are in the first set. In total, the product has 14 signed cards. Repeat signers include Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Liv Typer, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Lee. Director Peter Jackson and Miranda Otto lead the new autographs.
The Update set has just three autographs. Sean Bean and Viggo Mortensen both have FotR autographs. This is the first autograph card for Andy Serkis, though. He performed Gollum and revolutionized the movie industry in the process for his work in bringing motion-capture technology and acting to the forefront.
2002 Topps Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Autographs combine to fall 1:36 hobby packs and 1:125 retail packs. Group A autographs are inserted 1:45 hobby packs and 1:158 retail packs. Short prints can be found in Group B (1:232 hobby, 1:804 retail) and Group C (1:518 hobby, 1:1,796 retail). Craig Parker cannot be found in any packs. Rather, his signature is a case topper.
Autographs are a bonus hit in 2003 Topps Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Update. These fall 1:113 packs combined. Sean Bean is a little bit rare but not enough to create a huge rarity compared to the other two.
