2023 zerocool Stranger Things Fright Flicks taps into a couple levels of nostalgia. Obviously, there’s the show itself, which uses the 1980s as one of its characters. Fright Flicks revives the classic 1988 set of trading cards that brought together several horror films.
This time around, there are no mash ups. It’s all Stranger Things. And collectors won’t find packs while on bike rides down to the corner store. Updated for the times, these are an online exclusive.
2023 zerocool Stranger Things Fright Flicks Checklist Details
The base set features 30 cards, most of which revolve around characters. That said, there are a few action-oriented cards towards the end. The design doesn’t opt for the main 1988 Topps Fright Flicks look. Instead, they go for the header title card that kicked it off.
All 30 cards have six levels of parallels starting with Silver, which are one per pack. Others include Pink (#’ed/86), Blue (#’ed/11), Printing Plates (1/1) and Red (1/1). Finally, there are Black versions, which are numbered 0/0. Of course, you can’t have zero copies of a card that actually exists. These are actually one-of-ones.
Each pack of 2023 zerocool Stranger Things Fright Flicks also has one of ten Throwback inserts. These are based loosely on the 1988 set’s Stickers.
Autographs are also available, but they’re extremely tough. Joseph Quinn (Eddie) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna) each signed for the set. Their single-signature cards have just 11 copies each, though. A Dual Autograph is one-of-a-kind. While both have certified autograph cards elsewhere, these are their first for Stranger Things.
