2000 Inkworks Simpsons 10th Anniversary trading cards is a celebration that has a lot going on but not really one singular focus. It’s fun and has some great cards on the checklist, but it’s also all over the place. This is the first set of Simpsons trading cards, though, to include autographs.
2000 Inkworks Simpsons 10th Anniversary Checklist Overview
This marks the first Simpsons set from Inkworks, the third North American company to hold the license after Topps and SkyBox.
The base set has 81 cards. Like the show it’s based on, things are largely character-driven. But there’s a mix of themes and designs within that. Several small subsets group characters into a variety of themes like Celebrities (local stars), The Establishment (rule makers) and Citizens (the people you meet in the neighborhood).
The anniversary theme is clearest towards the start of the checklist with the Decade of D’Oh subset. This goes back to the show’s beginnings with shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show and highlights some of the landmark episodes of The Simpsons over the first several seasons.
The disjointed nature of the base set is likely most clear in the skateboarding-themed Bart SK8 and Art by Bart subsets. It’s not that these cards are bad. They just don’t really fit in with the broader celebratory theme.
Autographs and Other Inserts
Over the years, there hasn’t been many Simpsons autograph cards. 2000 Inkworks Simpsons 10th Anniversary is one of just two sets to include them (the others are in 2001 Inkworks Simpsons Mania). Here, there are five cards featuring some top voice actors like Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Nancy Cartwright (Bart) and Yeardley Smith (Lisa). For many years these cards flew under the hobby radar but prices have been increasing.
Packs have three additional insert sets.
Nuclear Neon (six cards, 1:17 packs) are done on plastic stock and give off a glow effect meant to mimic radiation.
Four Diorama-Rama cards (1:27 packs) can be mix and matched to create cels. The first two cards act as backgrounds while the other two with Bart and Homer act as overlays. Put them together and you can create a handful of different scene combinations.
Finally, there are nine Cut-Ups (1:11 packs) that spotlight key characters with die-cut cards.
Rounding out the 2000 Inkworks Simpsons 10th Anniversary checklist is a case loader card designed to resemble a Springfield postcard.
Like most of their sets, Inkworks made a binder for the set. This one is die-cut along the top to match Bart’s hair.
