Topps made several strong sets of Lord of the Rings trading cards. But when it comes to signed cards, the 2001 Topps Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring Autographs are probably the strongest. Featuring many of the most recognizable stars in the film, the cards today can get very pricey.
In total, there are 14 autographs in the set. However, just nine were inserted in North American hobby boxes. They combined to land 1:24 packs, which meant many boxes had a pair of signed cards. Highlights of the hobby autographs include Elijah Wood, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sir Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett. John Rhys-Davies is a slight short print, landing 1:280 packs.
Retail packs have four autographs not available anywhere else: Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving and Dominic Monaghan. These command a significant premium as they’re tough to find.
Another rare autograph is Sean Bean. His card was only available in the UK in packs distributed by Cards Inc.
