2024 Upper Deck Goonies trading cards bring the beloved 1985 film to the hobby with a modern twist. While you won’t have to do the Truffle Shuffle to get them, it’s not a traditional release, either. The wax packs of the original Topps set have been replaced by Upper Deck’s digital e-Pack platform. There’s an added twist in that the set is a slow roll, releasing over the course of several weeks.
2024 Upper Deck Goonies Checklist Overview
When complete, the movie will be retold over 50 base cards. However, it’s just five cards per week for ten weeks. The design embraces the 1980’s original release, printed on old-school cardboard stock. Memorable moments and plot points are all included.
The numbers dictate that there aren’t a lot of each individual base card. Each week, Upper Deck drops just 1,985 packs. Base are one per. That means it would take five packs (and no doubles) each week. Do the math and it’s a little less than 400 copies per card.
One-of-one Printing Plates are randomly inserted for each card. These are the only base parallels.
Each pack also has a Black and White Variant. There are two of these each week so they’re much more plentiful than standard base cards. While Upper Deck labelled them variants, they are more of an expansion that uses the same layout but different moments alongside black and white images.
Characters are the other common insert. Rather than drawing these out, all ten cards are available in weekly packs. Each has a stated print run of 1,499 copies. There are also Gold parallels that have 499 copies.
Sketch cards are the big chase in packs. These all have original artwork and land 1:112 packs — less than 20 per weekly drop.
Achievements
As is the case with a lot of Upper Deck’s e-Pack products, there are additional cards not available in packs. Called Achievements, these are essentially exclusives that reward collectors who complete various sets and tasks on e-Pack. This can come from both buying packs and trading on the platform.
For 2024 Upper Deck Goonies, there are a few levels. These start with Astoria Achievements, five cards that correspond with different parts of the checklist. Some challenges are harder than others, making their Achievement cards more scarce. Several of these won’t appear until after the full ten-week run of drops is complete.
Additional 2024 Upper Deck Goonies Achievements include multi-panel sketch cards and cards with doubloons or diamonds embedded in them.
