2024 Topps Chrome Sapphire Star Wars: The Phantom Menace trading cards take an upscale look at Episode I. Coinciding with the film’s 25th anniversary, it’s the third Topps Chrome Sapphire set for the franchise and first not to be based on existing products (including the many Sapphire sports cards sets that came before).
Hobby boxes deliver four numbered parallels. Autographs are also possible, although not guaranteed. That said, the list of signers is on the small side and features several big names — including one appearing on her first certified Star Wars autograph cards.
2024 Topps Chrome Sapphire Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Checklist Details
The 100-card base set runs through the movie from start to finish. While there have been several Phantom Menace sets in the past, particularly during its initial release, these aren’t past cards that have been given the Chrome Sapphire makeover. Everything is fresh. Like other Topps Chrome Sapphire sets, these are done on metallic stock and have a patterned background that has shard-like shapes running throughout.
Cards have eight levels of parallels:
- Purple Sapphire – #’ed/125
- Green Sapphire – #’ed/99
- Yellow Sapphire – #’ed/75
- Gold Sapphire – #’ed/50
- Orange Sapphire – #’ed/25
- Black Sapphire – #’ed/10
- Red Sapphire – #’ed/5
- Papradascha Sapphire – 1/1
Signatures take on a few forms. The main source is Phantom Menace Cast Autographs. Just 13 signers are on the checklist including Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor and Samuel L. Jackson. This is also the first Star Wars set to have certified Keira Knightley autographs. Although her role as Sabé isn’t huge, in the decades since Knightley has had several major roles including the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. She has also been nominated for a pair of Oscars.
Three Dual Autographs are also on the 2024 Topps Chrome Sapphire Star Wars checklist. Among the pairings is Portman and Knightley, and McGregor and Ahmed Best who plays Jar Jar Binks.
Additional insert sets include Duel of the Fates (20 cards), Jedi High Council (12 cards), Podracing (10 cards) and Sapphire Selections (20 cards), which is now a staple in most Topps Chrome Sapphire releases, no matter the license. Some Sapphire Selections cards also have signed versions.
