2024 Fleer Throwbacks Marvel ’59-63 takes it back in time, not just with the subject matter but the designs as well. At the same time, its distribution takes a very modern approach, absent of the traditional pack opening experience.
2024 Fleer Throwbacks Marvel ’59-63 Checklist Details
A follow-up to 2023 Fleer Throwbacks ’89, this one goes back about three decades further. Designs come from the early days of Fleer starting with the base set. It consists of 60 total cards, although there are two distinct sections. The first half uses 1963 Fleer Baseball while the balance of the checklist is based on 1961-62 Fleer Basketball.
Here’s where the modern part of the release comes in. Physical packs do not exist. Rather, 2024 Fleer Throwbacks Marvel was only available through their e-Pack site and all packs were digital. Standard base cards are as well, so no actual cards for that part of the checklist exist. However, parallels and inserts do have physical copies.
Base parallels include:
- Red – 1963 – 1:3 packs, 1961-62 – 1:6 packs
- Orange – 1963 – #’ed/263, 1961-62 – #’ed/261
- Green – 1963 – #’ed/63, 1961-62 – #’ed/61
- Blue – 1963 – #’ed/23, 1961-62 – #’ed/21
- Purple – 1963 – #’ed/3, 1961-62 – 1/1
- Printing Plates – 1/1
The digital-only base cards can be used to unlock a pair of additional parallels. Glossy Gold versions were available to those who combined five of the same base cards. Ten Glossy Gold parallels could then be used for a Glossy Black card. Basically, 50 of the same digital cards were needed for a Glossy Black. Print runs aren’t available, but needless to say they’re tough.
Sketch cards are available, although they are extremely scarce. Landing 1:1,957 packs, just 19 artists are featured.
Ten Stickers represent the other chase component. These fall 1:353 packs.
Other inserts include In Action (1:7 packs), Marvel Greats (1:9 packs), Monsters of Marvel (1:13 packs) and Prototypes of the Past (1:25 packs). All four of these have Printing Plates as well.
Collectors finishing various aspects of the 2004 Fleer Throwbacks Marvel ’59-63 checklist were also eligible for special achievement cards not available in packs.
