2023 Topps Chrome Baseball Hidden Gems is a sneaky set of inserts spanning several of the year’s products. There’s a good chance that even if you were a regular buyer of the featured sets they were included in, you never pulled one. In fact, you could have broken several cases and not gotten a whiff.
2023 Topps Chrome Baseball Hidden Gems Details
Hidden Gems kicked off at the start of the baseball card season with 2023 Topps Series 1. The initial installment included five cards. Despite being listed among the set’s odds (1:38,127 hobby packs), the cards themselves weren’t listed on the checklist. It took several days for the first one to show up on the secondary market — long enough to have collectors wondering if the cards actually existed.
They do.
In the months that followed, more 2023 Topps Chrome Hidden Gems arrived in other sets. Currently, numbering runs up to #50. That said, there is a gap of five cards (potentially reserved for the long delayed 2023 Topps Stadium Club Baseball) and a couple of spots have duplicate cards. So, there’s roughly 50 cards in the set.
Players span generations of the sport. Current superstars, rookie standouts and all-time legends are all part of the 2023 Topps Chrome Hidden Gems checklist.
Due in large part to their extreme rarity, Hidden Gems carry significant values. Even the less desirable players can fetch hundreds.
History of Hidden Gems
While these are a new addition to the 2023 baseball card lineup, Hidden Gems have a history in Topps products.
The inserts made their debut in 1995-96 Topps Hockey, landing at a more modest 1:24 Series 1 packs. The focus was a little more specific as well, including only late draft picks.
1998 Topps and 1998 Topps Chrome Football Hidden Gems have a design closer to the 2023 revival, although not exact. Like their hockey counterparts, these aren’t particularly rare, either.
