2016 Cryptozoic The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies trading cards mark the culmination of Peter Jackson’s prequel trilogy. It keeps up largely with the previous two installments with autographs and sketch cards being the major chase elements. But it’s not just those. The checklist features several other elements as well.

The checklist kicks off with a 90-card base set. It’s all film, with every card going together to tell the story and major plot points. With the title, “Battle of the Five Armies,” it also means lots of action.
Parallels come in three levels. Silver Foil Board are the most common, landing 1:6 packs. Each hobby box has one Canvas card. These switch up the card stock. They’re also numbered to 75 copies each. Finally, there’s Arkenstone Foil Board, a carryover from The Desolation of Smaug. Good luck finding them, though. These are all one-of-ones.
Autographs
2016 Cryptozoic The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies autographs are one per hobby box. More than 20 signers are available in the main section, including Martin Freeman and Evangeline Lilly. Six signers also have Poster Autographs, which have 75 copies each, and Illustration Autographs that are limited to 25 copies.
The ongoing Creator Autographs lineup rounds out with two final cards: director Peter Jackson and music composer Howard Shore.
Additional Inserts
Sketch cards land approximately every third box. The artist lineup is big with 70 people working on the set. Standard for Cryptozoic sketches, the styles may vary but all are high quality.
2016 Cryptozoic The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies has a couple of other tough insert sets. Five more 3D Lenticular Poster cards are added (1:144 packs). Four are in packs. The final one is an exclusive bonus with the set’s binder.
Six Portrait Cards (1:48 packs) use artwork taken from the movie’s character posters.
Other inserts include a nine-card Crytomium (chrome) Smaug Puzzle (1:24 packs), Character Biography (six cards, 1:12 packs) and Weapons (nine cards, 1:4 packs). Weapons cards have the same parallel lineup as the base set.
