Of all the MCU sets that the company has made, 2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy should be considered one of the best. From the strength of its autograph checklist to the broad mix of other cards, there’s a lot going on from both a quality and quantity perspective.

Each hobby box includes three total hit cards. The first two are memorabilia cards. There’s also either an autograph or a sketch card.

2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy Checklist Details

The 135-card base set is a little bit on the confusing side. The first 90 cards make up the shell set. Most collectors will likely stop here and call it a day. These are basic movie recap cards that don’t actually cover a lot of ground in the movie itself. Think of it as more a recap of early moments and scenes from the trailer. With Hollywood so effects-driven and concerned about spoilers, this is the norm for a lot of movie sets today that come out around roughly the same time as it hits the big screen.

The remainder of the checklist consists of a handful of short printed subsets that combine to land one per hobby pack: Talents of the Guardians (character cards), Movie Poster, Concept Series, and Behind the Lens.

Hobby packs have two parallels, but only for the first 90 cards, Bronze and Purple (/25). These change up the foil color found along the sides and add accents to the background.

In addition to this, 2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy also has a retail version. The cards are the same except they don’t have the foil accents on the side for the base versions. Blue and Pink (/10) parallels, also for the first 90 cards only, are only in retail packs.

2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy Autographs

2014 Upper Deck Guardians of the Galaxy doesn’t have the biggest autographs checklist but, when it comes to actors, it’s one of the best ever committed to cardboard. Not all of the set’s eight Actor Autographs are worth the same but there’s not a bad one among them.

Leading the way is Chris Pratt. Not only is he the lead of the ensemble cast, but he’s one of the biggest actors in Hollywood. After his breakthrough in TV’s Parks and Recreation, Pratt has since starred in several blockbusters as well as taking one of the lead roles in the Jurassic World trilogy. Still, Pratt and Peter Quill are forever connected now. To date, this is the only set outside of cut signatures that the actor’s autograph has appeared in.

She may come from an earlier generation, but Glenn Close is another big get for the product. The eight-time Oscar nominee has appeared in several iconic films over the decades including Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmations, Mars Attacks and The Natural.

Other signers include David Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace and Michael Rooker.

At 1:80 packs, Actor Autographs are fairly tough but not impossible. The face that all are solid certainly helps. There are also Dual Actor Autographs and Cosmic Threads Autographs that have memorabilia swatches.

Digging into the movie’s Marvel Comics roots, there are also Classic Covers Autographs. Signers here are artists and creators. Landing 1:60 hobby packs, most of these come with two signatures.

Memorabilia Cards and Other Inserts

All memorabilia cards in the product fall under the Cosmic Threads banner. That said, they come in a handful of styles, all of which have some sort of elevated feature.

Standard Cosmic Threads have material from one character. That said, even these have two swatches. Oversized versions are the only ones in the product with one piece but it’s a big one. Dual, Trio and Quad Cosmic Strings add swatches and characters.

The rarest are the four-swatch Team card that has all of the main team and a Max card that has nine swatches. Both of these are 1:2,400 hobby packs.

Sketch Cards take on a few forms including basic Horizontal and Vertical layouts. There are also Character Sketch Cards that have card numbers and focus on someone specific from the film.

Standard insert sets on the checklist include Galactic Residents, The Sights, Weapons and Zero Gravity.

Hobby boxes also come with one oversized box topper card. Most are standard cards with artwork. However, there are also Oversized Sketch Cards, which fall approximately one per case.
