2014 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe trading cards combine characters and key comic storylines. At least that’s the focus of the base set. The plentiful inserts are a mix of expansions from earlier releases and new, art-driven rarities. And don’t forget about the sketch cards, which are one per box.
2014 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe Checklist Details
Save for the checklist title card that kicks things off, each of the other slots in the 90-card base set features a different Marvel character. Heroes and villains collide, grouped together in smaller nine-card subsets that highlights a different major story arc.
Cards are done with foil fronts, casting a colorful character shot in the background with an outline of a comic cover in the background. Backs go on to highlight their part in the story as well as they featured comic.
Three levels of parallels are available in packs, each of which changes the color of the comic outline on the front. Even through Sapphire are the easiest at 1:8 packs, it would still take 30 boxes with no duplicates to build the set. There’s also Emerald (/100), which are one per box, and case-hit Diamond (/10). Special Archive Boxes that were given to dealers pre-ordering 18 cases of 2014 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe have a complete set of exclusive Ruby parallels that are numbered to 50.
Inserts
Sketch cards live up to the set’s name, covering a huge spectrum of characters. All are done in color from a roster of more than 130 artists. Among them are a pair of case incentives. Those ordering size case received a card by Anthony Tan. Nine cases landed a piece by Melike Acar.
2014 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe has the first 25-card installment of 75th Anniversary Gold inserts. A tough pull, these are two per case at 1:144 packs. Each card is also numbered to 75 copies. Rittenhouse added 25 cards each to their 2014 Marvel 75th Anniversary and Dangerous Divas Series 2 sets, bringing the full set of premium inserts to 75 cards.
Four other insert sets pick up where previous Rittenhouse Marvel releases left off: Artist Draft (ten cards, 1:12 packs), Heroes and Villains Expansions (nine cards, 1:48 packs), Marvel Greatest Battles Expansion (18 cards, 1:24 packs each for Thor- and Captain America-themed cards), and Shadowbox (six cards, 1:48 packs). Greatest Battle cards also have Red (1:144 packs per section) and Gold (/75, 1:288 packs per section) parallels.
Avengers Origins offers a fresh slate of cards. While there are just five of these on the 2014 Rittenhouse Marvel Universe checklist, they average out to one every other box.
