2013 Stussy x Yo MTV Raps put a new spin on a trading card classic. Designed to help promote a clothing collaboration between the company and featured artists, cards revisit 1991 Pro Set Yo MTV Raps.
The set has just ten cards, which came in special promo packs available at select stores in August, 2013.
Design-wise, cards are virtually identical to the 1991 Pro Set release. The Stussy logo is added to the top and the font for the artists’ name is different, but the bold top and bottom banners and the colors that help make the look memorable remain.
As far as artists go, it’s all big names that helped bring hip hop to the mainstream. Top acts include De La Soul, Public Enemy, Ice T, Queen Latifah and Digital Underground.
Today, this is not an easy set to find. Cards are out there, but it will likely take some hunting and a willingness to pay. The combination of rarity, star power and nostalgia are a powerful mix.
