2013 Cryptozoic Big Bang Theory Season 5 is the first-single-season release for the show. It follows in the footsteps of 2012’s Seasons 1 and 2, and the Seasons 3 and 4 set from earlier in ’13. While this set maintains the charm of the first two and has plenty working for it, it’s not at the same level of the first two installments, either.
2013 Cryptozoic Big Bang Theory Season 5 Checklist Details
The base set consists of 68 cards. It’s a bit of an odd number from a traditional perspective but it’s what Cryptozoic needed to tell the season’s main storylines and highlights. Typical for a lot of the company’s trading cards, the design is somewhat dynamic and distinct from the previous sets. Some are vertical, others horizontal. Cryptozoic also crops cards differently to highlight key parts that work best for the medium versus simply using a full screen grab.
Autographs continue to be the big chase, landing one per box. Five of the show’s six leads are among the signers including Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki and Mayim Bialik. The only big name missing, and it’s a big one, is Kaley Cuoco. The actress signed for the first two sets but nothing after.
So many of the key names, but all are extremely tough pulls, which shouldn’t be surprising. Maybe it was the deep set of supporting signers in the Seasons 3 and 4 set, but here there aren’t many notable names outside of the leads. Leonard Nimoy is the major exception. Not only did the Star Trek icon sign, but his card has him as his action figure self. A little odd, perhaps, but fun and unique.
Wardrobe Cards are the other major insert. A total of 38 are available in packs with an additional Penny costume card that’s exclusive to the set’s binder. At 1:18 packs, there’s at least one memorabilia card per hobby box with some having two.
Rounding things out are seven Standee cards and the nine-card Quotables, which come on foil stock. Each of these are 1:12 packs.
