2008 Rittenhouse Fantastic Four Archives trading cards trace the history of Marvel’s first family. While much of the checklist focuses on the comic books, the big draw comes with the promise of a full-color sketch card in every box. On top of those are bonus sketches drawn by some major industry names.
2008 Rittenhouse Fantastic Four Archives Checklist Details
The 72-card base set is like a greatest hits of Fantastic Four comic covers. Fronts have a key image from that particular book while backs have a lengthy synopsis, the cover as well as credits for the book’s creators. With hundreds of books to draw from, it’s pretty much just major events and turning points that are covered.
As far as chase elements go, sketch cards are the biggest. A box hit, the main sketch cards are all in color. Nearly 60 artists have cards available in packs. On top of those are a couple of multi-case incentives. An oil-painted card by Bard was given to those ordering four 12-box cases. The ten-case incentive is a sketch card by NAR!
Not all of the 2008 Rittenhouse Fantastic Four sketch cards are in color. There are bonus black and white cards from big-name creators. Among them are John Romita Sr., Jim Valentino and Joe Quesada.
Other inserts on the checklist include nine foil Legendary Heroes cards (1:24 packs), nine Nemesis cards (1:8 packs) that highlight major villains in the group’s history, and Ready for Action (18 cards, 1:12 packs).
Instead of the usual topper card, sealed cases came with an exclusive poster that has covers from the first 100 issues of the Fantastic Four comic.
Although this is the first mainstream standalone comic-based set of Fantastic Four trading cards, it’s not the first for the characters. Upper Deck did a set for the 2005 film starring Chris Evans and Jessica Alba.
