Things look a little different in 2008 Inkworks X-Files: I Want to Believe trading cards. Based on the second film, not only does everyone look a little older but there’s something distinct about some of the key cards. It makes for a strong checklist in some regards but a reminder of how ugly things got for Inkworks in their final months.
The 72-card base set is your standard plot synopsis set up. Although different in some regards, the design is still similar to Inkworks’ seasonal X-Files sets.
Both autographs and Pieceworks costume cards are included at a rate of one per box.
The autographs checklist is the first to have David Duchovny, which is important. Gillian Anderson and creator Chris Carter are also here. A ten-case incentive even combined the signatures from the two lead stars.
But there is one problem. They’re not pleasant to look at. 2008 Inkworks X-Files: I Want to Believe came out at a time when the card maker had switched to stickers for signatures. While the best of stickers can be an annoyance, there is a way to make them passable. Inkworks opted for silver foil. Not only that, but their logo tiles throughout the background making them busy and extremely distracting.
So in the one regard, some might be happy to finally see signatures from Mulder and Scully in the same set. On the other, it’s tough to compliment how they look.
2008 Inkworks X-Files: I Want to Believe has a large Pieceworks checklist of more than 15 cards once variants and incentives are factored in.
Basic inserts include Back to Basics, a nine-card In Search Of foil puzzle and six embossed foil Wanting to Believe cards.
