2007 Upper Deck Spectrum Baseball Spectrum of Stars Autographs followed in the footsteps of the Donruss Fans of the Game program. Although inserted in a baseball product, the cards feature signatures from a variety of actors and singers — mostly from the B, C and D lists.
But even if many of the names aren’t big today, most have a memorable role or song that’s easy for many to connect with, at least if you grew up in the 1970s and ’80s. Notable TV stars include Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal (Married with Children), Catherine Bach (The Dukes of Hazzard) and Todd Bridges (Diff’rent Strokes). From the movies, there’s Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club, Weird Science) and Corey Feldman (The Goonies, Stand by Me, The Lost Boys). And music doesn’t get much more ’80s than Tiffany.
A handful of the 2007 Upper Deck Spectrum Baseball Spectrum of Stars Autographs came in the form of mystery redemptions. If you pulled one of the redemptions, you didn’t know who it was for. When the set first came out, there was a lot of speculation over who they’d be. Big money was being spent on them. Then the list came out: O’Neill, Sagal and Michael Madsen.
Upper Deck’s checklist includes some signers that don’t seem to have surfaced. Among these are Fergie of The Black Eyed Peas, Ernest Borgnine and Carrot Top.
