2006 Artbox Frankenstein puts a modern trading card spin on the 1931 movie classic starring Boris Karloff. While a recap is at its core, there are several premium elements that bring it into more recent times.
2006 Artbox Frankenstein Checklist Details
Spanning 72 cards, the base set recaps the movie from start to finish. With 75 years between the movie’s release and the trading cards hitting shelves, spoilers are plentiful. The design is a fairly straightforward one with the movie still on the front dominating things, although there is still space for a caption and logo. Backs include a second image and a fairly detailed write-up.
Inserts
A big part of the modern upgrade comes with the set’s inserts. With its various Harry Potter releases and others like 24 and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, many Artbox products are defined by autographs and memorabilia cards. Here, it’s the promise of a sketch card in every box.
Artbox is able to incorporate autographs and memorabilia here, but in extremely small numbers. For starters, there is a Boris Karloff cut signature. The emphasis here is on “a.” The card is a one-of-a-kind.
Slightly more plentiful is a prop card featuring a small piece of wiring from Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory. Serial-numbered to 50, one lands approximately every 1,200 packs.
Rounding out the premium inserts are Cinema Film Cels. These have small strips of film from a print of the movie. Each has 84 copies but with eight different in the set, they’re a tough but not impossible 1:80 packs.
Nine different Glow-in-the-Dark cards that go together to form a puzzle are the final inserts available in 2006 Artbox Frankenstein packs.
Three additional Glow-in-the-Dark cards are available as box toppers.
Also included in each box is one of six different figurines featuring either Frankenstein’s Monster or the Bride of Frankenstein.
2006 Artbox Frankenstein has a relatively small production run 2,500 boxes.
It was supposed to be the first in a run of Universal Monsters sets from Artbox but additional releases never materialized before Artbox exited trading cards.
