When it comes to conveying the action and scope of a movie, there’s nothing quite like Topps’ Widevision line. 2005 Topps Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Widevision wraps up the prequel trilogy. Like most of the tall boy sets that preceded it, the base set is the focal point. However, there is one big-time autograph that ranks among the most valuable in the franchise’s history.
The set gets its name for its over-sized dimensions. This allows base cards to show images as they appeared on the screen, no cropping required. The base set has 80 cards and focuses on recapping key points of the film’s plot.
Autographs are the key insert. But they’re not guaranteed in every box. Rather, they’re inserted 1:48 packs, or every other box. Leading the way, by far, is Samuel L. Jackson. One of Hollywood’s most successful actors, this is one of just two signed cards he had for more than a decade. The other is for the loathsome The Spirt. Jackson’s card is by far the toughest, falling 1:2,795 packs. Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) is also among the set’s signers.
Both hobby and retail packs have separate Chrome inserts. Each set has ten cards and uses production art.
Flix-Pix is the set’s only other inserts. These are done on lenticular stock and show main characters moving.
