2005 Artbox Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone trading cards began the task of filling in the gaps from the card maker not gaining the license until the third film. Coming out between their Prisoner of Azkaban Update set and The Goblet of Fire, the set looks at the beginning of the films. Despite jumping back, the set has the same mix of autographs, costume cards and prop cards their other releases of Harry Potter trading cards.
The base set has 90 cards, standard for releases connected directly to the films. Artbox would stray from this number for some of their spinoff releases, but it was always a dependable number when it came to the actual film sets. The design also falls in line with the other film-based sets. The color scheme is a little different but there’s some definite continuity between the releases.
2005 Artbox Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Autographs
Autographs, which are found approximately every other box, have a couple of stars more notable for their work outside Harry Potter. However, it is one of the few sets of Artbox Harry Potter trading cards not to include at least one of the big three of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. However, it does count John Cleese among the checklist 14 cards.
Additional Inserts
Costume and Prop cards are also inserted 1:48 packs. All of these come serial numbered. As you might expect, the rarest of these are generally the most valuable.
Nine Cinema Filmcards are numbered to 397 copies each. These have a pair of cels from a print used to play the film in theaters.
Holographic Foil cards are the only other inserts included in 2005 Artbox Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone packs. These nine cards have a collage on the front. Backs go together to form a puzzle.
A total of 8,000 boxes of the product were produced.
Artbox wasn’t the first company to make a set of cards for the film. Wizards of the Coast, traditionally a company for trading card games, released a set of cards upon the movie’s release. The “widescreen” set was poorly received, though.
