2005 Artbox Charlie and the Chocolate Factory trading cards feature one of the most colorful and eclectic checklists ever produced. And it’s a potent one too with several big-name autographs and low-numbered memorabilia cards.
2005 Artbox Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Checklist Details
The 90-card base set is standard stuff for a movie set. It recaps the movie as well as profiling many of the film’s key cast. It is worth noting that the set can be found with a couple of variations. Most have pink foil on the front. These are the ones included in packs. Special tins made for the San Diego Comic-Con have orange foil. While not terribly rare, these orange foil cards are much tougher to find.
Autographs, Memorabilia Cards and Other Inserts
The 2005 Artbox Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Autographs list has some major star power. By far, the biggest is Johnny Depp who ranks as one of Hollywood’s elite. To date, this is his first and only certified autograph on a trading card. Other signers include Freddie Highmore, Annasophia Robb, Helena Bonham Carter and Christopher Lee. Autographs are only in hobby packs, landing at a rate of approximately every other box.
Hobby boxes do promise either a Costume or Prop card. All of these come serial numbered. Generally speaking, the rarer the card, the more valuable they are. What’s fun is the varied options there are for collectors, particularly with the props. Several are truly unique in the swatches and pieces they use, whether they come from a contest poster, chocolate bar wrapper or even a Golden Ticket.
Retail packs have their own exclusive prop cards. Done in the style of a Golden Ticket, these have pieces of wappers. They’re numbered much higher than the hobby prop cards and are significantly more affordable.
Also available are several incentive prop and costume cards. The strangest of these have plastic grass used in the film. The short-grass version was a 25-case incentive and is numbered to 39. The long-grass version was given to those who pre-ordered product and the New York Toy Fair.
Both retail and hobby packs have their own nine-card sets of foil cards. Hobby boxes also have one of four Scratch ‘n Sniff box toppers.
A total of 6,000 2005 Artbox Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hobby boxes were produced. Given the popularity of the main cards, supply has largely dried up.
