2004 Topps Lord of the Rings Trilogy Chrome Autographs marks the final time the card maker included actor-signed cards in a set for Peter Jackson’s epic films. Although there are some key actors in the set, as a whole, it’s mostly secondary characters that don’t have huge appeal outside these films.
The product has 14 autographs in all. They combine to land 1:18 hobby packs, which works out to two per box. Retail packs also have autographs, but they’re much tougher to pull, falling 1:83 packs.
Most of these Lord of the Rings autographs are available in equal numbers. The one exception is David Wenham who has about 25 percent fewer. The lone Group B signer, the Wenham autograph is inserted 1:320 hobby packs.
The top cards in the 2004 Topps Lord of the Rings Trilogy Chrome Autographs set are Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler. Mortensen has two different cards for different incarnations of his character. He can be found as Aragorn and King Elessar.
Another notable card for comedy fans is Bret McKenzie. Since the trilogy wrapped, he went on to star in HBO’s Flight of the Concords. He became an Academy Award winner for penning songs for The Muppets.
