Alongside The Sopranos, Six Feet Under helped usher in a new era of premium cable drama. Alongside The Sopranos, Six Feet Under also has the distinction of becoming a disappointment on the trading card front — at least as far as sales go. While the target audience for the show proved not to be into trading cards, Rittenhouse put forth a very solid release. Highlighting it are the 2004 Rittenhouse Six Feet Under Autographs.
The release has a total of 17 signers. The combine to land 1:13 packs (three per box). Of the show’s main characters, Peter Krause (Nate Fisher) and Michael C. Hall (David Fisher) are the lead signers. The set also has some solid names in the secondary stars department like Julie White (Mitzi Dalton-Huntley) and Joanna Cassidy (Margaret Chenowith).
And as good as the list is, it’s missing some names that would have probably helped sales. Chief among them are Lauren Ambrose (Claire Fisher), Frances Conroy (Ruth Fisher) and Rachel Griffiths (Brenda Chenowith).
Not all of the 2004 Rittenhouse Six Feet Under Autographs are available in packs. The set’s binder came with the Marina Black autograph. Alan Ball, the show’s creator and Oscar winner for writing American Beauty, is a case topper. Finally, Illeana Douglas, a tremendous character actress, was an incentive for those ordering multiple cases.
Although Rittenhouse didn’t produce any more seasonal sets of Six Feet Under trading cards, they did do a two-card Autograph Expansion set in early 2005.
