Although the movie is largely forgettable, 2004 Inkworks Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed trading cards offer a solid mix of cards. Most notable is the autograph checklist that has multiple standouts. But the rest of the set shouldn’t be disregarded either, even mixing in a taste of the original cartoon.
The 72-card base set is broken down into a handful of themed subsets. First up are character cards dedicated to the Scooby Gang, the people they’re trying to help and the many monsters and ghouls that are unleashed. A story synopsis follows then clues and location cards.
Autographs are inserted one per box. While Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. aren’t on the checklist, it’s still solid. Linda Cardellini and Matthew Lillard, who played Velma and Shaggy, are there. As is Clueless star Alicia Silverstone, one of the ’90s most memorable actresses.
Pieceworks also land one per box. These include costume swatches from the four main human characters. Shaggy, Velma, Fred and Daphne each have three cards in the 12-card set.
Much like the insert’s name, Monsters Unleashed is a basic nine-card foil puzzle. The main part of the checklist is rounded out by six Mystery Inc. cards which feature animated images. There are also the standard three box loaders and a case topper.
