Ben Affleck’s spin in Daredevil doesn’t exactly earn top marks among comic book movies. It’s not Batman and Robin bad, but it’s far from great. That said, the 2003 Topps Daredevil trading cards set has a few interesting things going for it.
The 72-card base set is standard stuff. The clean design retells the story, looks at the characters and does a little behind-the-scenes research.
Things get a lot more interesting with the autographs. Leading the checklist is Ben Affleck. His signature is among the toughest to pull. Only Joe Pantoliano, who plays Ben Urich, is rarer among the pack-inserted cards. His star power has fallen a lot since the glory days of “Gangsta’s Paradise” but Coolio is one of the more recognizable names in the set despite the fact that his small role in the movie ended up on the cutting room floor.
The most valuable of the 2003 Topps Daredevil autographs can’t be found in packs. Jennifer Garner, who starred as Elektra in the movie, signed 50 cards. These were given away to dealers after the set’s release.
If a 2003 Topps Daredevil hobby box didn’t have an autograph, it came with a Movie Memorabilia card. These have a piece of the Daredevil costume embedded in them.
The product has no other insert cards.
