2003 Rittenhouse Dune Mini-Series trading cards are notable beyond the set’s content. Despite offering a checklist that goes beyond base cards, it was distributed exclusively in a factory set-style format. That meant that collectors didn’t have to rip packs and chase tougher cards. Everything came together and all cards were produced in equal quantities—which wasn’t a lot.
2003 Rittenhouse Dune Mini-Series Checklist Details
The base set consists of 50 cards. It recaps the three-part film that originally aired on the Sci Fi Channel in December, 2000. It took Frank Herbert’s classic novel and transformed it into something that ran for more than four hours.
Some premium cards were also part of the package.
First up is an autograph signed by Alec Newman who took on the role of Paul Atreides. There’s also a pair of From the Archives costume cards.
Sets came packaged with a custom binder as well as a promo card.
A total of 999 sets of 2003 Rittenhouse Dune Mini-Series trading cards were produced. The design of the set meant that it was aimed directly at fans of the show. As a result, there’s not a lot out there today. However, cards are often packaged together still.
This isn’t the first time that a Dune movie has made the jump to trading cards. In 1984, Fleer did a set based on the movie starring Kyle MacLachlan and Sting (the singer, not the professional wrestler).
