It’s strange to think that a movie starring some of Hollywood’s biggest icons has achieved dreadfully overlooked status. But that’s the case with Looney Tunes: Back in Action. The same could be argued for the 2003 Inkworks Looney Tunes: Back in Action trading cards. Despite an extremely strong autograph lineup — at least for the time — and several colorful inserts, the release has largely been forgotten.
The 72-card base set retells the movie’s story, spotlights the characters and has some cheats for the movie’s companion PlayStation 2 and GameCube video games.
2003 Inkworks Looney Tunes: Back in Action Autographs
The eight-card autograph set is filled almost entirely with recognizable names. Lead stars Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman might not be as popular as they were when the movie came out, but the average moviegoer is likely to know of them, especially Fraser. Heather Locklear, a borderline A-lister in the 1980s and early part of the 1990s, also has a signed card in the set. However, the top autograph might also be one of the most overlooked gems in the hobby.
Thus far, 2003 Inkworks Looney Tunes: Back in Action has the only Steve Martin autograph card. The comedy legend might not look his best on the card, but it’s Steve Martin. Compared to a lot of other big-name autographs in both sports and entertainment, the card is shamefully cheap.
It is important to note that, unfortunately, all the autographs in the set are redemptions. Redemption cards are no longer valid.
Additional Inserts
Being that this is an Inkworks release, basic inserts follow a pattern. Official Looney Tunes Tours is the nine-card foil puzzle. ACME Miracle Products is the slightly tougher six-card insert.
Boxes have one of three Do-It-Yourself Flip Card box loaders and cases come with a Daffy’s Batmobile card. The first 300 cases also had a prop card with a film-used casino chip embedded in it.
