As far as Star Trek movies go, Nemesis is already largely forgotten despite being one of the newest entries. But while the film itself isn’t great, the 2002 Rittenhouse Star Trek: Nemesis trading cards have a lot of variety and a strong autograph checklist.
The base set has 72 cards, about two-thirds of which cover the film’s plot. Beyond that, there are subset cards for key quotes and behind-the-scenes shots.
Autographs are inserted 1:20 packs and come in two different styles. There are the main Nemesis autographs that highlight characters from the movie. Romulan History Autographs delve into the franchise archives for the alien species. Signers for the set feature many of the Next Generation bridge crew like Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn. Today, the most notable card might belong to Tom Hardy. Thus far, it’s his only autograph card. In the years since Nemesis released, he’s had major roles in such blockbusters as Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road and Warrior. However, he’s best known as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and the lead in Venom.
2002 Rittenhouse Star Trek: Nemesis has three additional insert sets. Casting Call (seven cards, 1:40 packs) looks at the movie’s main stars. Star Trek Technology (eight cards, 1:8) showcases some of the film’s Sci-fi thinking. Romulan History (1:3) is a big 27 cards.
The following year, Rittenhouse put out a small Star Trek: Nemesis expansion set.
