The 2002 Rittenhouse Dr. No Commemorative Set has the card maker trying to play a little catch-up. With 11 films coming before they acquired the James Bond trading cards license, Rittenhouse went back to the very beginning for a small and relatively simple mini set. It also coincides with the film franchise’s 40th anniversary, a theme that earned a full anthology-style release.
Consisting of 18 cards, save for the header card that kicks things off, the checklist is character-driven. Even then, just 11 different characters appear. That’s because some of the key leads appear multiple times, showing off some of their different looks and fashion choices. For example, James Bond has three different cards: bow tie chique, Sunday best suit and casual Connery. Honey Ryder also has three cards while Dr. No and Sylvia Trench appear on two.
Each Dr. No Commemorative Set card has four different black and white photos of the featured character, all tightly cropped head shots. Backs use the main photo once again. The only information is the actor’s name and the character they played.
The 2002 Rittenhouse Dr. No Commemorative Set was originally sold as a mini factory set.
