Look at just the checklist and 2001 Topps Monsters Inc trading cards give off the appearance that’s there’s a lot going on. And there is. However, not much in it is overly tough to put together.
Topps and Disney have had a stop-and-go sort of relationship over the years. This is the first set the card maker did for one of the Pixar animated features. Like a lot of Disney trading card sets, the focus is on the movie’s core audience — kids. Similar to the Toy Story sets put out by SkyBox a few years earlier, that means several interactive elements.
The 2001 Topps Monsters Inc. base set has 50 cards. It has a colorful design that stresses a fun sort of feeling, even for a film dealing with monsters and the concept of fear. It tells much of the story’s first two-third, avoiding key spoilers as to how things pan out.
Inserts are plentiful with multiple in every pack. And despite there being seven different insert sets to track down, the odds are in your favor. Barring duplicates, a full master set is possible with a single box.
