2001 Rittenhouse Xena: Warrior Princess Seasons 4 and 5 marked a new beginning for the trading card line. After three sets (and some comic books) at Topps, the license moved over. With it came more of a focus on premium elements, particularly autographs.
The 72-card base set offers a brief look at all of the episodes. The checklist is rounded out with subsets that look deeper into characters.
This is the first set to include an autograph of series star Lucy Lawless. She’s one of six different autograph signers in the product. Autographs were still one in every other box at this point, but it would pave the way for future Xena sets from Rittenhouse. Other signers include Kevin Smith (Ares) and Ted Raimi (Joxer).
2001 Rittenhouse Xena: Warrior Princess Seasons 4 and 5 has several additional inserts. Xena: Face of a Warrior and Xena Undressed both focus on the titular star. Gabrielle: The Battling Bard also spotlights a singular lead character. Allies and Enemies each get their own separate insert sets.
The toughest of the basic inserts is simply called Xena: Warrior Princess. There’s just one card, but it’s not an easy pull at 1:480 packs. It also comes numbered to 999.
A pair of costume cards, the first for the series, are also connected to the product. That said, they’re not found in packs. The first was distributed as a case topper. The second was sold separately by Rittenhouse. Like the set’s autographs, plenty more costume cards would come in future releases.
