2001 Rittenhouse Stargate SG-1 Premiere Edition trading cards kick off a long-running line that would go on to cover every season. Rittenhouse’s Stargate line would also expand into releases for the show’s spinoffs.
This first release covers the first three seasons. With just 72 cards in the base set, obviously there isn’t a ton of depth for individual episodes. The design is a little different from future sets. Outside of the image on the front, the caption bar is the only addition. Later season-based sets added a Stargate-inspired frame along the edge and a different bottom. This set definitely has a more minimal approach.
Autographs are inserted one per box. The checklist is on the small side with only eight signers making their way into packs. Leading the way is Richard Dean Anderson who played the show’s lead star Col. Jack O’Neill. He also played MacGyver in another time and place. A ninth autograph, Tony Amendola, came with the set’s binder.
2001 Rittenhouse Stargate SG-1 Premiere Edition also has costume cards under the From the Archives banner. However, these land every other box.
The product has three additional insert sets. Leading them is six Stargate In Motion cards. Inserted 1:30 packs, they’re lenticular cards that show show bits of action from the show. Other inserts include Stargate Aliens (nine cards, 1:4 packs) and Stargate Stars (five cards, 1:7).
