1999 SkyBox Wild Wild West Movie trading cards is one of those instances where the product might be considered better than what’s on the screen. At least it should be for autograph collectors as the checklist is extremely strong in that regard, with multiple massive names and a few other notable names.
1999 SkyBox Wild Wild West Movie Checklist Details
The base set is a modest 81 cards, most of which act as a summary for the film. Towards the end of the checklist, there are nine character-specific profile cards.
For the vast majority of collectors, it’s the autographs that are worthy of attention in 1999 SkyBox Wild Wild West. Landing one per hobby box, the checklist includes two of the film’s three leads: Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh. To date, this is Kline’s only certified autograph card. Branagh has additional signatures for Harry Potter and Thor.
The most valuable card in the set belongs to Salma Hayek. Like Kline, this is her only autograph card.
Other notable signers include M. Emmett Walsh, who has one of the most unique signatures ever on a trading card, and model Frederique Van Der Wal.
Will Smith does not have autographs in this product.
Collectors may notice a couple of different versions of the autographs. Some have an embossed SkyBox logo while others do not. It’s likely that cards with embossing are the ones found in packs while those without were leftovers that hit the secondary market after Fleer declared bankruptcy in 2005 and sold off their assets.
As far as other inserts go, the 1999 SkyBox Wild Wild West checklist has three additional sets. Three Platinum Portraits, which have embossed foil portrait’s of Smith’s character James T. West, are numbered to 750 copies. There’s also Concept Sketches (nine cards, 1:4 packs) and Gordon’s Gadgets (nine cards, 1:12 packs).
