1998 SkyBox Star Trek: Insurrection trading cards are a mix of several elements. Based on the ninth feature film in the Star Trek franchise, the cards take the same over-sized tall boy format used with the previous movie, First Contact.
The base set has 72 cards. It breaks down into several subsets that not only recap the film but its characters, alien races and notable bits of dialogue.
Each 1998 SkyBox Star Trek: Insurrection box comes with an autograph. This is a big step up from First Contact, which had just one signed card. And it was an extremely tough pull at that. There are 19 this time around, including several members of the Bridge Crew. It is worth noting that two of the top cards on the checklist, Patrick Stewart and Levar Burton, are both redemptions. Other signers include Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis and Jonathan Frakes.
Headlining the basic inserts are seven Gold Portraits. Inserted 1:360 packs, they’re extremely tough pulls. They’re also numbered to 400 copies each, a small number at the time for Star Trek trading cards. The cards themselves are done with embossed gold foil, giving them a very busy look.
Things get a little emotional with Relationships, a simple set that simple shows some of the film’s key pairings.
Other inserts in 1998 SkyBox Star Trek: Insurrection include Okudagrams, which look at display screens and Schematics. Wardrobe cards are simply based on costume designs, not memorabilia cards with swatches embedded in them.
