1998 Inkworks Women of James Bond took a different direction from earlier sets of trading cards for the venerable franchise, one that would prove popular with multiple manufacturers. As the name suggests, this set is dedicated to the ladies. It also introduced a cornerstone for the franchise that has followed in virtually every set of James Bond trading cards ever since — autographs.
1998 Inkworks Women of James Bond Checklist Details
The base set has 72 cards. Typical for Inkworks, it breaks down to include several thematic subsets. Overall, there’s largely a character focus to the checklist so subsets sort them into how they interact with 007. Some are friendly, others more physical in nature. Of course, there are the villains as well.
Of yeah, 1998 Inkworks Women of James Bond doesn’t look like your traditional set of trading cards. It goes big with a tallboy format. Measuring 2 1/2″ by 4 1/2″, they’re an in taller than usual. This puts them in line with Topps Star Wars Widevision, Upper Deck All-Time Toons and a handful of other oversized sets released in the mid- to late-1990s.
Autographs and Inserts
The autographs checklist has just five cards. However, being the first signed James Bond cards, they are important even if they don’t carry a lot of value today. Signers include Lois Maxwell (Miss Moneypenny), Shirley Eaton (Jill Masterson) and Lana Wood (Plenty O’Toole). Maxwell is the most valuable in the set.
The 1998 Inkworks Women of James Bond checklist has a couple of other insert sets, Early Encounters (six cards, 1:17 packs) and Bond’s Best (three card, 1:35 packs). Finally, there’s a single Mystery Girl card featuring Minnie Driver that’s 1:108 packs.
