1998 Inkworks Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 trading cards is one of the most popular releases of its time. At least it was. Although the excitement around the show has lulled somewhat since the show went off the air in 2003, Buffy Summers remains an icon with a massive following.
The base set has 72 cards, recapping the abbreviated first season and its 12 episodes. Each has at least two cards, although most have more depending on its importance and major events. Other subsets focus on the main cast, evil creatures and quotes.
1998 Inkworks Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 Autographs and Inserts
Four autographs remain very popular. They’re tough pulls, coming at a time when Inkworks wasn’t making them a box hit. Signers include Alyson Hannigan (Willow), David Boreanaz (Angel) and the show’s creator, Joss Whedon, who has since gone on to become one of Hollywood’s most popular creators. For Hannigan, it’s not just her popularity that drives values. This is also the only set she signed for while Inkworks had the license for the show.
Three additional inserts are available in 1998 Inkworks Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1 packs. The Chosen One is a nine-card foil puzzle. Six Slayer Kit cards highlight some of the weapons Buffy used to fend off vampires and other underworld baddies. Finally, there’s one How to Kill a Vampire card. Landing every third box, it’s cut in the shape of a coffin and opens up.
Inkworks would go on to make sets for all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as a handful of spinoff releases. For a time, it was easily their most popular line.
