1995 SkyBox Disney Premium Checklist, Trading Cards Info

1995 SkyBox Disney Premium trading cards took the animation powerhouse in a different direction than collectors were typically used to. Sure, there were lots of Disney sets before it (and several after), but virtually all of them targeted young collectors. As the name suggests, this set went more high-end—even if it may not feel that way so much today.

1995 SkyBox Disney Premium Checklist Details

A complete base 1995 SkyBox Disney Premium set has 91 cards. However, you’ll usually see it as 80. That’s because the chase elements, which would normally be inserts, are numbered as part of the set and not something separate.

For standard base cards, it’s the technology that makes them “premium.” For starters, there’s the card stock, which is a noticeably thicker 24 pt. Fronts use lots of gold foil including a thick border as well as the lettering, set logo and a small inner frame. These go together with UV coating to give everything a slick feel. Even the images get an upgrade with remastered shots.

As far as the content, most of the set looks at different Disney shorts. That means lots of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, but also attention to some lesser-seen secondary characters. Seven movie posters and six comic book covers are also part of the main set.

Chase Base

As for the chase-style short prints, there are two types. Villains Silver Screen has nine cards, with one landing every four packs. These are done with mirror foil. To help protect them, particularly from scratches, these cards came in packs with a protective film that can be peeled off.

Rounding out 1995 SkyBox Disney Premium are two Holobossed cards, which are 1:18 packs. These combine two types of technology, holograms and embossing. The hologram is the most obvious with images running in the background. Original drawings of Mickey and friends are layered on top, adding a bit of texture.

While these two subsets are short prints, both have easy enough odds that collectors should find a full master set in every box with good collation. This also means that deciding to finish things today isn’t overly difficult.

1995 SkyBox Disney Premium trading cards hold solid values but it’s not an overly expensive set today. Sealed boxes have become somewhat rare and command the highest amounts. But going after the cards themselves is still reasonable.
