1995 Fleer Ultra Skeleton Warriors trading cards offer a slightly upscale look at the short-lived universe created by the ensuing cartoon and toy lines. The franchise was like a 1980s throwback in the vein of Masters of the Universe and Transformers where the TV show fuelled the action figures and the suits and stock holders reaped the rewards. It didn’t quite work out in this instance but we still have the memories — and the PowerBlasts.
1995 Fleer Ultra Skeleton Warriors Checklist Details
The 100-card base set delves into Skeleton Warriors lore. The backstory, which involves distant planets, crystals, armored heroes and, what else, skeletons galore. The checklist includes several subsets that peel away different layers of things like characters, history, match-ups and even weapons. Instead of taking shots directly from the cartoon, images go the computer generated route. Today, it looks dated and a little primitive. But in the mid-1990s, it was cutting edge.
Factor in the gold foil highlights and glossy stock and you’ve got a premium — for the time — product, even if the cartoon lasted just 13 episodes.
Three insert sets are available in packs. Unlike most Fleer Ultra entertainment releases from the time, Holograms are not one of them.
There is PowerBlast, though. These use etched foil on nine different characters. At 1:6 hobby packs, these are also the 1995 Fleer Ultra Skeleton Warriors inserts with the longest odds.
Luma Bone (1:4 hobby packs) are glow-in-the-dark cards because there’s not much cooler than a card with glowing bones.
Suspended Animation (1:4 hobby packs) spotlight different characters on acetate. The idea is to mimic a cartoon cel. Or it’s just an attractive way to showcase things.
1995 Fleer Ultra Skeleton Warriors trading cards don’t carry a lot of value today. This is in large part due to the fact that the frachise is largely forgotten. The set itself is a solid one.
