1994 SkyBox Home Improvement marks the only time the top-rated sitcom made the jump over to a set of trading cards. It came at a time before autographs and premium inserts became a thing, but the checklist still has a variety of themes that are more than basic episode recaps.
1994 SkyBox Home Improvement Checklist Details
Ninety total cards make up the base set. That said, it’s broken down into several distinct subsets that not only bring in different themes but designs as well.
The first 34 cards are traditional episode cards. It’s a “greatest hits” approach, showcasing 17 episodes from the show’s first three seasons. Featured shows each have two cards.
Among the set’s other themes are character profiles, behind-the-scenes, Tim’s Guide to Life, and Wilsonisms, which have small but deep bits of wisdom from Tim’s mysterious neighbor. A nine-card puzzle gives the blueprints for a sawhorse, which is kind of strange.
The end of the checklist has ten Static Cling Stickers, each with a phrase. In a lot of other sets, these would be inserts but they’re part of the main set here.
The only chase cards in 1994 SkyBox Home Improvement are two foil cards. There’s approximately one per box.
