1994 Comic Images GI Joe 30th Salute cover a lot of ground. Touching on the cartoon, comic and, of course, the toys, it’s a deep dive into the franchise. If you’re looking for a set of GI Joe trading cards that goes into the history of the line, this is it.
1994 Comic Images GI Joe 30th Salute Checklist Details
The 90-card base set is divided into seven different subsets, each looking at a different theme. Much of this is dedicated to the action figure line. This starts with the first section, which is also the biggest. Going back to the first figures from 1964 and moving through three decades of toy evolution, this part of the set looks at not only the Joes and Cobras, but some of the vehicles and playsets as well. Other toy-themed subsets look at things like international variations, toys that were never made, most valuable figures and a preview of things that were slated to come out after the set’s release.
All of these sets have toy photography, some in packaging and some out. What makes these particularly interesting is the write-ups on the back that offer some additional information on the production and what makes that toy worthy of inclusion on the checklist.
Other subsets include Comic Art, and Film and TV. Both of these track GI Joe outside of the toy aisle and into other forms of media, keys to the franchise’s peak popularity in the 1980s.

Six Chromium cards offer a metallic look at classic toys. Landing a reasonable 1:6 packs, the odds are in your favor of getting a complete set in each box barring some poor collation.
Three Comic Anthology cards are tougher at 1:36 packs. These have comic-style art on the front and trivial tidbits on the back. Oddly, two of the three cards go into deaths found in the Marvel series.
A Medallion card is 1:144 packs and Joe Kubert signed 500 autographs.
