1993 Cardz Tales from the Crypt trading cards use the horror anthology as its launching point. However, rather than delving into the substance of each show, the checklist is all about the show’s host, the Cryptkeeper. To be honest, that’s probably what people remember most about the show in the first place.
1993 Cardz Tales from the Crypt Checklist Details
The Cryptkeeper might be a ghoulish looking creature, but the checklist plays more into the comedic side. The 110-card base set is primarily the puppet host in various costumes like a doctor, chef or even Elvis impersonator and then giving him a witty or pun-filled one liner via a comic-style speech bubble.
It’s not complex but it doesn’t have to be. The combination of humorous visual, horror and nostalgia are strong.
Backs go beyond the Cryptkeeper’s shenanigans and offer a little more on the episodes themselves. However, it’s not recaps. This set was made for fans of the show who were either watching it at the time or have it recorded somewhere. That’s because the backs are all trivia, as in the kinds of questions you’d expect to hear at a Tales from the Crypt trivia night at the local pub. The answers are there, so the set doesn’t leave you hanging.
1993 Cardz Tales from the Crypt trading cards feature two insert sets. First is a single Tekchrome card, which is 1:72 packs. These were in many Cardz sets around this time including The Flintstones and The Muppets.
Three Holograms round out the checklist. At 1:18 packs, one could potentially complete a master set of the product with just a couple of boxes.
1993 Cardz Tales from the Crypt trading cards carry fairly strong values considering that it’s not an overly complex set. You can expect to pay around $100 for an unopened box.
