1992 Zellers Batman Returns trading cards are one of several sets made for the blockbuster. However, instead of nostalgically riding to the corner store to grab some packs along with a handful fuzzy peaches or even heading to a bustling card store, these were originally available at the Canadian discount store.
The promo set is on the small side with just 24 cards. And it absolutely is a promo set with both the movie’s title and the chain store’s logos splashed across the front. Images come straight from the movie with lots of overlap with the mainstream sets from Topps.
Backs take the O-Pee-Chee approach with text in both English and French. It’s not that the cards are overly descriptive but there is a caption. In true promotional form, there’s more attention to the collect-and-win aspect of the set. A small circle on the back has a hidden letter that could be revealed by a Zellers employee. Spell B-A-T-M-A-N and you’d win a jacket.
1992 Zellers Batman Returns dimensions are not traditional. They run on the tall side.
Despite being a Canadian release, there’s plenty of this product to go around still today. It was 1992 after all and companies were looking to cash in on the massive success of the 1989 Tim Burton film. As a result, car values are still quite low.
