1992 Topps In Living Color trading cards are as bright and colorful as the show they’re based on. They’re just as early 1990s, too, which is appropriate for one of the most important and influential shows of the era.
Not a popular or talked about set for a long time, it has found a second life thanks to some big-time stars making their first trading card appearances on the checklist.
1992 Topps In Living Color Checklist Details
Consisting of 88 cards, the base set plays like a greatest hits of skits from the FOX sketch comedy. Homey D. Clown, Fire Marshall Bill and the Head Detective may not resonate much today but they were all big parts of ’90s pop culture. Besides original characters, collectors will also find spoofs of headline makers like disgraced music duo Milli Vanilli and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
More importantly, the 1992 Topps In Living Color is home to “rookie cards” of several actors who went on to bigger things after the show. Damon Wayans had several hit movies and TV shows. Jamie Foxx would go on to win an Oscar. Jim Carrey became one of the most successful big screen comedians ever. And while not singled out on a card, Jennifer Lopez is also in the set as a member of the Fly Girls dance troupe.
Singles with Carrey and Lopez in particular have found popularity on the secondary market, driving up prices of boxes and sets in the process. Carrey has several cards on the 1992 Topps In Living Color checklist but the main one comes early in the set. Card #6, captioned simply as “James” acts as a profile of the Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura star.
For Lopez, there are two key cards, #14 The Fly Girls and #32 Lisa, Carrie Ann, Cari Jennifer and Deidre. One names the group, the other the members individually. “Carrie Anne” is Carrie Ann Inaba, long-time Dancing with the Stars judge.
Stickers
Complimenting the base set are 11 stickers, which land one per pack. Backs go together to form a puzzle of the Fly Girls. Yes, that includes more Jennifer Lopez content.
1992 Topps In Living Color trading cards are somewhat unassuming in their old-school approach. But with the show acting as a launching pad for so many superstars, the set has proven to be one of the most significant of the early 1990s.
