Summarizing three decades of comic storylines into one 90-card set of trading cards? That’s what 1992 Comic Images Spider-Man 30th Anniversary does. It’s not exactly a continuation of the more time-specific McFarlane Era set put out earlier in the year, but it is a complimentary release as far as general design and structure goes.
1992 Comic Images Spider-Man 30th Anniversary Checklist Overview
The set goes back to the beginning of Spider-Man, Peter Parker and all of his friends and foes. Number 1 in the set is a recreation of the iconic Amazing Fantasy #15 comic cover. From there, it’s mostly all-art fronts with images taken from various books and covers from the decades that followed. It’s virtually identical in this regard to the McFarlane Era set.
With 90 cards to cover 30 years, the checklist looks at things from a big picture. Major events and epic encounters are included.
Backs have a red frame versus McFarlane Era’s blue. There’s a single-color second image and a write-up to describe what’s going on.
1992 Comic Images Spider-Man 30th Anniversary has just one insert set — six additional Prism cards. Numbering for these continues directly from where the similar McFarlane Era inserts left of, running from #7-12. Artwork on several of these go with the birthday theme including Spidey with candle-covered cakes.
Like a lot of Marvel trading card sets from the period, supply isn’t an issue. There’s a lot of the 30th Anniversary set out there as singles, sets, inserts and unopened boxes. Still, prices have been creeping up, particularly when it comes to sealed boxes. 1992 Comic Images Spider-Man 30th Anniversary still isn’t a wildly valuable set, just more than it once was.
