1991 Topps Terminator 2: Judgement Day takes a bit of a different route. While the set definitely falls within the trading card family, they’re also stickers like Garbage Pail Kids and Wacky Packages — minus the parody, of course.
1991 Topps Terminator 2: Judgement Day Checklist Details
The set is a simple one. It consists of 44 cards that take a quick run through many of the major moments of the film. While all the key characters are there, some aren’t in all of their forms. Photos showcase action, but the groundbreaking special effects are noticeably absent.
Fronts have blue borders along with some design highlights that appear to try and make them look like the from a Terminator’s perspective. This plays into the backs, which have bits of programming language with fonts that bring back memories of the original PC Print Shop just as much as evoking cyborgs from the future. A short synopsis on each sticker back does add some context, though.
1991 Topps Terminator 2 highlights some of the nuance of licensing. With Impel producing a traditional trading card set at the same time, Topps was still able to squeeze in with the sticker angle despite still mimicking the card format. These ones are just a little more versatile.
Not overly popular even during its original release, there’s still plenty of 1991 Topps Terminator 2 on the secondary market. Whether it’s boxes, packs or sets, it’s all still relatively affordable. If there’s any premium, it should be for unopened boxes that aren’t marked with a black ‘X’ or slash. These mark returns and definitely make up the majority of the boxes that are still out there. Clean boxes without the mark would likely be coming from a case that remained sealed for all these years and have some relative rarity.
