Like most food-issue releases, Honey Nut Cheerios’ field trip to West Beverly High isn’t a big one. It consists of just 12 cards. Each specially marked box of cereal included a cello pack with three cards inside.
Fronts have a promo shot typically of one or two characters along with some colorful design accents straight out of the early 1990s. Backs have a trivia question.
According to a Chicago Tribune article highlighting the promotion, a total of 5 million boxes of cereal were distributed with the cards in the United States. That’s a big number. However, cards are not all that common today. Most were likely tossed away or tucked away by people who weren’t card collectors.
For completists, there are a couple of variations for the set depending on the back. Cards can be found with both gray and purple as the dominant color on the back. Taking it a step further are the Canadian variations. These have bilingual text in both English and French. The copyright is also slightly different with Golden Grahams getting a mention along with Honey Nut Cherrios.
