1988 Zoot California Raisins World Tour offer an easy trip around the globe courtesy of the world’s most famous claymation one-hit wonders.
Each of the set’s 25 sticker cards has the rockin’ raisins visiting a different country. Fronts are all illustrations, giving a bit of a different look that the clay stop-motion commercials they California Raisins are best known for. Art is done with plenty of gags, adding some levity. They might not be great jokes or ones that have aged well over the decades, but the light-hearted sensibilities are still there.
Backs have lots of facts about the featured countries including population, leaders, capitals, currency and famous locations.
The format and approach are essentially the same as Zoot’s U.S. of ALF release from the year before. Only now the cards go global instead of just staying in the United States.
Today, the set doesn’t carry significant values. Part of that is the size. This wasn’t a hard or expensive set to build at the time. Perhaps more relevant today is the fact that the California Raisins haven’t really been popular since shortly after this set came out. Today, you can find plastic figures with ease for a couple of dollars. For some, there’s nostalgia, but not to the same level as a lot of other 1980s properties.
