1987 Topps Harry and the Hendersons trading cards capture a film that is largely forgotten in today’s streaming world. But when you combine John Lithgow and a family-friendly sasquatch shown through the lens of the late 1980s, trading card fun follows.
1987 Topps Harry and the Hendersons Checklist Details
The 77-card base set runs through the movie’s plot as the Henderson family befriends a bigfoot and eco-friendly hijinks ensue. Fronts use yellow borders, pre-dating 1991 Fleer Baseball by four years. Although the graphics and inner border are different, the look has a similar feel as Topps’ first ALF set, also released in 1987. The movie has plenty of weird visuals, making for a set that’s goofy in a good way.
Backs have a large illustration of Harry. Between that and the film’s logo, there’s not a lot of leftover space for write-ups so they’re kept short.
Every pack has one of 22 different Stickers. These reuse a lot of the same visuals as the base set, this time opting for a leafy green border motif.
1987 Topps Harry and the Hendersons remains a largely affordable set today. Boxes might not be $5 anymore but they’re still a lot cheaper than most other 1980s movie sets.
This release came out long before autograph cards became the norm in the hobby. However, 2013 Topps 75th Anniversary includes autographs of Maggie Langrick (Sarah Henderson) and Joshua Rudoy (Ernie Henderson), both incorporating cards from this set into their design.
