The hair was big in rock music in the mid to late 1980s. These cards are not. 1987 Hostess Ultimate Backstage Pass trading cards highlight three major acts from the time.
Available in bags of Hostess potato chips in Canada for a limited time, the set has 30 total cards. It breaks down to ten each for Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe and Canada’s own Platinum Blonde. Most of the set has portraits of individual band members, although there are some that capture the entire group.
Similar to other Hostess sets of the era, cards are on the small size measuring 1 1/4″ x 1 3/4″. Each bag of chips included one of the cards. To help protect them from grease, they were also originally wrapped in cello packaging.
1987 Hostess Ultimate Backstage Pass trading cards are moderately tough to find today, although they are out there and they aren’t too expensive.
The promotion also included a contest where winners got the chance to see the band of their choice from the three featured in the set. When entering, you could also pay shipping to receive either a souvenir backstage pass or t-shirt.
