Cyndi Lauper joined the ranks of Michael Jackson, Duran Duran and Menudo with her own set of trading cards in the mid 1980s. Like those of her peers, 1985 Topps Cyndi Lauper trading cards have bright colors and delightfully dated photos.
The set is split down the middle between 33 cards and 33 stickers. Even the configuration is the same with packs have three cards and three stickers (plus a stick of gum that’s similar to the border color on the cards).
There’s no doubt that this is a set from the heart of the 1980s. The colors are bright. And there seems to be more of them in the border splotches and design elements than there are in the singer’s hair. That’s no easy feat.
As cheesy as it might sound, these trading cards show that the Grammy winner really did like to have fun. Whether she’s singing at a concert, on a photo shoot or in the wrestling ring (she played a key role in bringing crossover appeal and a national audience to the WWF), Lauper is shown having a blast. And the energy is somewhat contagious.
Even if the singer isn’t your thing, there are some notable guests that appear in the set including pro wrestling stars Hulk Hogan and Captain Lou Albano.
Today cards aren’t overly difficult to find in boxes, packs or sets. 1985 Topps Cyndi Lauper has also remained largely affordable over the years.
